Dr. Alina Oancea

Alina is GMP Manufacturing Manager at the Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics, Mayo Clinic Florida.

Alina was born in Constanta, Romania, a 2,000 year-old city on the coast of the Black Sea. Shaped by communistic political party leadership the first 18 years of her life, then the democratic years after the Fall of Communism, and then moving to the United States, Alina has experienced many ways of life. Nonetheless, at an early age, Alina knew that her passion in life was to help sick people. She was eager to learn how to help them improve their health in the best way possible.

Alina holds a Mathematics-Physic bachelor’s degree. She also obtained her Medical Doctor Degree from Ovidius University, Constanta, Romania. After specializing in Emergency Medicine along with being a part of Medical School faculty, she got her Master’s degree in Hepato-gastro-enterology. In 2006, she was given the opportunity to join the Islet Isolation and Transplantation Team at Beckman Research Institute, City of Hope in Los Angeles. At that time, Alina was happy with her path of being a passionate E.R attending physician and teaching at university. She was also pursuing her PhD degree. When no one expected it, including her, Alina accepted the opportunity and moved to California. She spent 7 years helping Type 1 diabetic patients, then transferred to manufacturing cellular therapies for cancer patients for an additional 8 years at City of Hope Medical Center.

During her time in Los Angeles, she fell absolutely in love with Latin dance when her Argentinian friend, Julianna took her to a live show at a Latin night club for the first time.

In May 2021 Alina accepted an offer to become a Mayo Clinic family member and since then she’s been learning and experiencing what Florida has to offer.

Alina is passionate about gardening, dancing, tennis, travelling, and exploring new places.
